STAY FRESH HOLIDAY HYGIENE APPEAL, SUMMER 2024

Three million children in Britain were at risk of going hungry during the school summer holidays.

For families struggling to put food on the table, hygiene essentials like toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant become unaffordable luxuries.

The Beauty Banks STAY FRESH APPEAL raised funds for wellbeing kits containing holiday hygiene essentials, which were distributed via Beauty Banks’ extensive UK-wide network of 500+ charities, schools, and libraries.

CHILDREN ARE THE HARDEST HIT BY POVERTY

30% of children in Britain are growing up in poverty. That is nine children in a class of 30, and an increase of 100,000 children versus the previous year. 69% of children in poverty live in a working household.

EVERY CHILD DESERVES A CLEAN START:

Basic hygiene is fundamental to a child’s development and well-being. Without regular access to hygiene products, children’s mental, physical and emotional health is at risk; they can be the target of bullies or self-isolate due to shame, embarrassment and anxiety.

“The STAY FRESH Appeal supported children in low-income families during the long school summer holidays in 2024 so they do not have to live with the added burden of poor hygiene,” says Jo Jones, co-founder of Beauty Banks. “Our wellbeing kits contained hygiene essentials like body wash, sanitary pads, SPF and toothbrushes and enough product to keep school-age children clean and fresh throughout the holidays so they could have a healthier, happier summer.”
